Wait with us this Advent

So Advent has now begun… I don’t know about you but I often stumble into Advent wanting to make it a meaningful few weeks but not really sure how to do that in a sustainable or life giving way.

I thought long and hard about what I could offer you over these next few weeks to help you slow down and be a little more attentive to your soul in this often hectic time of year. I had planned a series of weekly devotionals on ‘soul care in busy times’ but again it just felt I was adding more pressure to an already busy time of year. Add silence and solitude to the list of things to do!

Every Lent and Advent here at Monastic Retreats we release a Lectio Divina podcast, for me that is going to be my practice this advent. To listen for three minutes each day to a small passage of scripture being read.

The theme this year is waiting, each daily reading traces this theme of waiting from creation through to the coming of Christ. I also put together a little reflection for each day in a devotional book which is also available here if you want some further prompting for reflection, but no pressure!

I hope and pray that your Advent season is one that feels manageable, sustainable and most important meaningful in these weeks up to Christmas.

May these offerings be a simple gentle accompaniment to your advent.

With much care, David
